ARVC Foundation Announces Scholarship Recipients for National School

ARVC Foundation Announces Six Scholarship Recipients for the National School of RV Park & Campground Management in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The National School of RV Park & Campground Management is a high-quality educational program that focuses on business management principles and practices as applied to the RV park and campground industry. The program brings leading industry experts into the classroom to provide attendees with the skills and expertise they need to make a positive impact on their campground and in the industry.

In year one of the program, students learn about key trends in the industry, management principles and much more to earn their Outdoor Hospitality Management (OHM) certificate. Students who return for year two focus on deepening their understanding of the industry through critical analysis and the application of best practices as they earn their Outdoor Hospitality Professional (OHP) certificate.

The ARVC Foundation offers tuition scholarships to a select number of students who are interested in completing the first or second year of the program. The following students were awarded scholarships to attend the next session of the school which will take place on February 24-27, 2020 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.:

Year One:

·      Valerie and Gerald Kook, Pineland Camping Park, Arkdale, Wis.

·      Billie McNamara, Loon’s Haven Family Campground, Naples, Maine

·      Michelle Pugh, Emberglow Outdoor Resort, Mill Spring, N.C.

·      Karah Wertz, Choice Camping Court, Manns Choice, Pa.

Year Two:

·      BJ Davis, Rustic Acres Campground, New Douglas, Ill.

·      Deborah Potter, North Pole Resorts, Wilmington, N.Y.

“The ARVC Foundation is proud to be able to present tuition scholarships to applicants eager to attend the National School of RV Park & Campground Management,” says Cyndy Zbierski, Foundation Chair. “The number of extremely motivated individuals that take the time to complete the process and express a desire to learn as much as possible about our great industry always amazes the Foundation Scholarship Committee. Choosing the award winners is not an easy task, but once completed, the Foundation Trustees are always thrilled to make the announcements to the deserving candidates.”

Jerry and Val Kook shared their reaction to being awarded a scholarship to attend National School.

“As newer owners of a campground and on a less than shoe string budget, having a scholarship really helps us afford the opportunity to help put us on a path to success, especially with the challenging weather last year. We are very grateful for what ARVC has to offer (both scholarship and education) and are looking forward to learning more about campground ownership and meeting with other campground owners.”

Donna Martin, OHP, owner of ARVC member-park True West Campground, Stables and Mercantile in Jamestown, Tenn. is a former scholarship recipient.

“Going to the National School was such an eye opener to me,” she says. “As someone that jumped into owning a campground with both feet, but eyes closed, I am forever grateful to ARVC to their continuing education with both the schools and the conferences. For me, the scholarship was key because we have a very small campground and although I knew there would be benefits to going, it was difficult to swing the cost. After completing the first week and getting my OHM, I was HOOKED! Learning more about campground ownership is infectious! I have been able to apply my learning over and over and over again. I continuously go back to the experiences I had in class and apply them to my daily routine. It's a MUST if you want to be successful. And success comes from more than just the bottom line of the P&L.”
